2023-2024 Season

Fall 2023

Spartan Throwdown (Case Western): Team Ciabatta and Team Baguette showed out at the start of fall season! Team Ciabatta had a record of 3-4-1 and Team Baguette with 3-5. NUMT took home 3 individual awards: Ciabatta’s captain Ben Hempker received a 17-rank witness award and seniors Emily Callahan and Cole Prieto (Team Baguette) both received 16-rank witness awards!

Arch Invitational (WashU): Team Sourdough went to St.Louis and had a St.Unning time! They won SPAMTA and left with a record of 2-4-2. Captain Rand Meyer earned a 19-rank witness award and Layla Zaidi earned a 17-rank attorney award.

Scarlet & Gray (OSU): Team Rye came back after an incredible time in Ohio after going 2-6! Captain Claire Foltz earned a 19-rank attorney award.

Tobacco Road (Duke): Team Sourdough received an honorable mention with a record of 5-2-1 in Raleigh! Captain Rand Meyer received a 17-rank attorney award.

Mock at The Rock (Northwestern): Mock at the Rock…rocked! Team Baguette and Team Rye held down the fort, going 2-6 and 1-6-1, respectively. Baguette Captain Claire Humphrey and Rye Captain Tea Bartlett both earned 17-rank attorney awards.

Boston Tea Party (Harvard): Team Ciabatta’s time in Boston was bread-taking! They went 3-5 at one of the most competitive tournaments of the season and Captain Ben Hempker took home a 19-rank witness award!

Winter 2023 (Stacked Teams)

Beach Party (UC Irvine): Team Tomato and Team Broccoli Cheddar had a fantastic time in sunny California! They placed 5th overall with a combined record of 9 ballots and received an honorable mention for SPAMTA. Tomato’s Rand Meyer and Broccoli Cheddar’s Saamiyah Khan took home 19-rank witness awards and Broccoli Cheddar’s Jordyn Howard took home a 20-rank attorney award!

UCLAssic (UCLA): Team Clam Chowder escaped a blizzard and flew out to California for UCLA’s competitive winter tournament where they went 3-5.

Great Chicago Fire (UChicago): Team Tomato placed 7th at GCF, an exclusive tournament of the top teams in the country, with a record of 7-5! Captain Emily Callahan won a 24-rank witness award.

Ramblin’ Wreck (Georgia Tech): Team Broccoli Cheddar went up against some great teams in Georgia, going 3-5!

Hilltop Invitational (Georgetown): Teams Clam Chowder and BoyarDee had some business to take care of in D.C.! Clam Chowder went away with a record of 2-6 and BoyarDee with a 2-5-1 record. Kieran McLean took an 18-rank attorney award back home!

2023 Regionals: NUMT qualified 2 of its 4 teams at regionals!

Dayton Regionals: Teams Clam Chowder and BoyarDee finished with 4-4 records. Captain Layla Zaidi earned a 19-rank attorney award and Vivian Bui earned a 16-rank attorney award. Oliwia Kaluzna earned a 16-rank witness award!

Des Moines Regional: Team Tomato and Broccoli Cheddar made their way over to Iowa and left with 2 bids to ORCS! Team Tomato took the first bid with a record of 7.5 wins and Team Broccoli Cheddar snagged the final bid with a record of 5.5 wins. Tomato’s Rand Meyer earned a 17-rank witness award and Broccoli Cheddar’s Jordyn Howard took a 19-rank attorney award!


2023 ORCS: At the St.Paul ORCS, Team Anagram won SPAMTA and had a 5-3 record and Banangram’s Eshaan Chandani took home a 16-rank witness award alongside a 3-4-1 record.

2022-2023 Season

Fall 2022 (Unstacked Teams)

UIUC: Team Laa-Laa and Team Po kicked off an incredible fall season! Team Laa-Laa placed 2nd with a record of 7-1 and Team Po placed 4th with a record of 5-2-1! NUMT took home 4 individual awards: Laa-Laa captain Abigail Roman-Ahlgrim and senior Tahj Burnett both received 20-rank attorney awards. Po’s captains Rand Meyer earned a 19-rank witness award and Will Hopkins earned a 17-rank attorney award.

Scarlet & Gray (OSU): Team Tinky Winky had an amazing drive-away tournament where they went 4-3-1. Captains Claire Foltz and Philip Wang both earned attorney awards.

Mumbo Jumbo (Tufts): Our first team in Boston for the year was Team Dipsy! They represented NUMT at one of the most competitive invitationals of the season where earned a record of 3-5.

Tobacco Road (Duke): At another competitive invitational, Team Laa-Laa went 3-5. Tahj Burnett received an 18-rank attorney award while new member, Claire Humphrey earned a 16-rank witness award!

Boston Tea Party (Harvard): Team Po had an amazing time in Boston and brought home our first SPAMTA of the year! Captain Will Hopkins earned both a 19-rank attorney and witness award.

Mock at the Rock (Northwestern): Team Tinky Winky and Team Dipsy competed at our very own invitational and earned records of 4.5-3.5 and 4-4, respectively. Tinky Winky captain Claire earned a 19-rank attorney award.


Winter 2023 (Stacked Teams)

Beach Party (UC Irvine): Team All Too Well and Team Big Emissions kicked off an incredible winter season! With 10 wins across both teams, NUMT placed 4th and brought home 4 individuals awards: Rand Meyer (19-rank witness award) and Tahj Burnett (17-rank attorney award) from Team All Too Well; Shawn Liang (18-rank attorney award) and Isaac Seltz (17-rank witness award).

UCLAssic (UCLA): Team Champagne Problems flew back out to California the next week for UCLA’s competitive winter invitational where they went 3-3-2. Ben Hempker earned a 17-rank witness award!

Swamp Invitational (UF): The Last Great American D Team came ready to see gators in Gainesville, FL! They earned a record of 3-4-1 and Cole Prieto earned an 18-rank witness award.

Ramblin’ Wreck (Georgia Tech): Team Big Emissions flew to Georgia for this challenging tournament! With (hopefully) small emissions, they came home with a record of 3-5.

Hilltop Invitational (Georgetown): Team Champagne Problems showed up to the Capitol well-dressed and ready for two days in trial. They had a fantastic time and left court with a record of 2-6.

AtypiCAL (UC Berkeley): The Last Great American D Team finished our travels to California at AtypiCAL. They left feeling as golden as the state itself about their 4-4 record and captain Josh Ezrol’s two awards (17-rank attorney and 17-rank witness)!


2023 Regionals: NUMT qualified 3 of its 4 teams at regionals with an honorable mention for its 4th team!

Evanston Regional: At our very own regional tournament, The Last Great American D Team earned 3rd place with a record of 6-1-1 with three individual awards! Cole Prieto earned a perfect 20-rank witness award while captain (and new member) Jordyn Howard earned two attorney awards for her incredible performance.

We are also proud of Team Champagne Problems for earning an honorable mention for their 6-2 record! Members Graham Umbanhower and Ben Hempker both earned individual witness awards.

St. Louis Regional: Team All Too Well and Team Big Emissions received two more bids at the St. Louis Regional! Team All Too Well earned 2nd place for their perfect 8-0 record and Team Big Emissions earned 4th place for their 6-2 record. 5 members came home as an All-Regional witness or attorney: Rand Meyer (18-rank witness), Tahj Burnett (17-rank witness), Claire Foltz (17-rank witness), Isaac Seltz (19-rank witness), and Jessica Ma (16-rank witness).



2023 ORCS: At the Geneva ORCS, Team All Too Well, renamed to Team Apybara with the addition of Champagne Problem’s Graham Umbanhower, earned 4th place for their 6-1-1 record and earned a bid to the National Championship Tournament! Captain Tahj Burnett earned an 18-rank witness award while Will Hopkins earned both a 17-rank witness and attorney award.

Team Babybara, a restacked combination of NUMT’s three other teams, came to Geneva ready to compete! We couldn’t be prouder of them for their 4-3-1 record and of Shawn Liang for his two attorney awards (19-rank and 17-rank).


2023 National Championship Tournament: Team Apybara brought home another national title for NUMT with their 10th place win. We are also proud to have another All American Attorney, Claire Foltz! Tahj Burnett, an All American Attorney from the 2022 NCT, can now also be referred to as an All American Witness.

2021-2022 Season

We could not be prouder of NUMT for the incredible year we had! The program’s tournament results are posted below…

Fall 2021 (Unstacked Teams) 

Scarlet & Gray (OSU): Team Shadowman and Team Tamatoa kicked off a great fall season! Shadowman went 4-4 while Tamatoa went 3-5. NUMT also had 2 individual awards! Shadowman captain Tahj Burnett earned a 17-rank attorney award and Tamatoa captain Abigail Roman-Ahlgrim earned an 18-rank attorney award. 

Spartan Throwdown (Case Western): Team Hades had a great time and went 3-5. Will Hopkins earned a 17-rank witness award!

Mumbo Jumbo (Tufts): Team Ursula and Team Hades represented NUMT at one of the most competitive invitationals of the season! Team Ursula went 2-6 and Team Hades received an honorable mention by going 5-3. NUMT also had 3 individual outstanding attorney awards! Emily Callahan, Will Hopkins, and Ursula captain Claire Gardner all earned 16-rank awards. 

Mock at the Rock (Northwestern): Team Shadowman and Team Ursula had a great time at our 2nd annual invitational! Team Shadownman went 3-5 and Team Ursula went 4-4, which earned them an honorable mention! Awarded to the team that best exemplifies the ideals of honesty, civility, and fair play, Team Shadowman, captained by Megan Munce and Tahj Burnett, earned the Spirit of AMTA (SPAMTA) Award! 

Tobacco Road (Duke): Team Tamatoa went 3-4-1 at NUMT’s last fly-away tournament of the season! 


Winter 2022 (Stacked Teams) 

Beach Party (UC Irvine): Team Abagel and Team Blueberry Bagel competed together virtually and came back as Beach Party Champions for the second year in a row! They won the tournament bracket with a record of 12-4! Abagel’s Abigail Roman-Ahlgrim earned a 16-rank attorney award while Blueberry’s Sydney Rubin earned a 16-rank witness award!

UClassic (UCLA): Team Donut went 2-5-1. 

Red Cedar Classic (Michigan State): With 7 ballots, Team Cinnamon Raisin had a great tournament with a second place finish! They also had 3 individual awards! Captain Ipsita K earned a perfect 20-rank attorney award while new member Philip Wang earned a 19-rank attorney award and a 17-rank witness award!

Windy City (Northwestern, UMBC, Emory, and Tufts): Teams Abagel and Blueberry Bagel had an amazing weekend downtown! They earned 4 and 1 ballots, respectively. Abagel’s Ruby Scanlon earned a 17-rank attorney award and Blueberry’s Isaac Selz earned a 16-rank witness award. Team Abagel also took home another SPAMTA Award!

Hoosier Hoedown (Indiana University): Team Donut went 3-4-1. Geo Jeanlouis earned a perfect 20-rank witness award!


2022 Regionals: NUMT qualified 2 of its 4 teams at regionals!

Team Blueberry Bagel dominated their regionals with a 7-1 record! Captain Emily Callahan earned a 17-rank witness award. 

Team Cinnamon Raisin earned NUMT’s second bid by receiving 6 ballots at their regionals! Captain Ipsita K earned both witness and attorney awards with 17 and 18-ranks, respectively. New member Jessica Zeng earned a 16-rank attorney award!

Team Abagel and Team Donut both came close to earning bids with records of 5-3 and honorable mentions. At Abagel’s regionals, NUMT took home 4 individual awards! Will Hopkins earned a 17-rank witness award, Captain Tahj Burnett earned an 18-rank attorney award, Captain Abigail Roman-Ahlgrim earned a 17-rank attorney award, and Ruby Scanlon earned a 16-rank attorney award. At Donut’s regionals, new member Vivian Bui earned a 17-rank attorney award! 


2022 Orcs: Team Abagel, renamed to Team Rat Pack, made their way to Nationals with a 6-2 record! Abagel’s Katherine Moore and Will Hopkins both earned witness awards with 17 and 16-ranks, respectively. Double-sided closer Ruby Scanlon was named an outstanding attorney on both sides, with 18-ranks on defense and 17-ranks on prosecution!

Team Megan Fox, a restacked combination of NUMT’s three other teams, put up a hard fight and finished with a 3-5 record. New member Jessica Zeng earned a 16-rank attorney award! Brendan Dahl, another new member, earned a 17-rank witness award. 


2022 National Championship Tournament: Team Rat Pack finished the season with an outstanding 8th place finish in the Kent Streseman Division. NUMT also came back with 3 All-American competitors! Tahj Burnett and Ruby Scanlon are both All American Attorneys and Will Hopkins is an All American Witness.

2020-2021 Season

Fall 2020 (Unstacked Teams)

OSU: Team Gryffindor kicked off a great season by earning an honorable mention with a 5-3 record! Captain Jacob Jordan also won a 17-rank witness award.

Colonial Classic (William & Mary): Team Ravenclaw finished 2nd with a 6-2 record. New member Emily Callahan won a 20-rank witness award and captain Abigail Roman-Ahlgrim won a 17-rank attorney award!

Vanderbilt: Team Slytherin finished 5-3, and captains Ruby Scalon and Will Hopkins won 19-rank and 17-rank attorney awards, respectively!

Mumbo Jumbo (Tufts): Team Hufflepuff and Team Gryffindor went 4-4 and 3-5, respectively, at one of NUMT’s hardest invitationals of the season. Hufflepuff captain Abigail Sutter won a 17-rank witness award!

Mock at the Rock: Team Ravenclaw and Team Hufflepuff killed it with twin 6-2 records, finishing 2nd and 4th respectively based on CS. Ravenclaw captain Abigail Roman-Ahlgrim won a 20-rank witness award and Hufflepuff captain Olivia O’Brien won a 19-rank witness award!

Winter 2021 (Stacked Teams)

Beach Party (UC Irvine): Teams Arrowverse and Bats competed together and earned first place, beating the University of Virginia and Patrick Henry in the final and semifinal respectively. Arrowverse’s Ruby Scanlon won a 20-rank attorney award and Bats’s Megan Munce won a 19-rank attorney award.

Georgia Tech: Team Cash took 4.5 ballots off some incredible competition, earning new member Claire Foltz an attorney award and Annie Chen a witness award! Team Legion of Doom also took an impressive 3 ballots, and captain Gabi Rancifer won a witness award!

Great Chicago Fire (University of Chicago): Team Arrowverse virtually dominated downtown, finishing 2nd place with a witness award for Tahj Burnett.

Georgetown: Team Bats finished 3rd, with attorney Will Hopkins and witness Megan Munce winning individual awards.

Arionza State: Teams Cash and Legion of Doom won 5 and 4.5 ballots respectively, with Doom captain Gabi Rancifer winning a witness award, Doom member Josh Ezrol winning both a witness and attorney award, and honorable mention for Doom attorney Shawn Liang and Cash witness Isaac Selz receiving honorable mentions!

2021 Regionals: NUMT knocked it out of the park at regionals, qualifying 3 of its 4 teams.

Team Arrowverse won their Regionals with an 8-0 record and individual awards for witnesses Jacob Jordan, Olivia O’Brien, and Emily Callahan, and attorney awards for Claire Gardner, Ruby Scanlon, and Michael Zhou. Team Legion of Doom took 5.5 ballots, with attorney Shawn Liang getting 18 ranks and witness Ipsita K earning 19, getting them the program’s second bid!

In the second weekend of Regionals, Team Cash took the second bid out of their Regionals with a 7-1 record and individual awards for attorney Christine Bae and witness Annie Chen. Team Bats very narrowly missed out on a bid withaa 5-3 record.

2021 ORCS: Team Arrowverse fought their way to Nationals with a 9-2-1 record, and Tahj Burnett earned both an attorney and witness award! Team Bees, a restacked combination of NUMT’s other three teams, barely missed earning a bid with a 7-4-1 record against some fierce competition. Bees’s Katherine Moore and Will Hopkins won witness awards and attorney Nick Welch also awarded!

2021 National Championship Tournament: Team Arrowverse closed out the season with an incredible 10th place finish in the Sara Ziegler division.

2019-2020 Season

Fall 2019 (Unstacked Teams)

OSU: Team Tyrell and Team Stark drove across the Midwest to throw down in NUMT’s first tournament of the season. Making an attorney appearance for the first time since the first tournament of last year, Megan Munce won an 18-rank attorney award and freshman Will Hopkins won a 17-rank witness award at his first mock trial tournament EVER.

Black Squirrel (Haverford): Team Lannister and Team Targaryen came away from their invitational debut with two 4-4 records and Ruby Scanlon took away a 17-rank witness award!

Winter 2020 (Stacked Teams)

Yale: Northwestern brought two teams to compete in the A division for the first time! Northwestern A finished fourth with a 5-2-1 record. Ruby Scanlon won a 17-rank attorney award and the team’s two defendants Katherine Moore and Eden Strong won 17- and 18-rank witness awards respectively!

Ramblin’ Wreck (Georgia Tech): Northwestern B took a trip down south and came away with a 3rd place finish with a record of 7-1-1!

Evanston Regional: Northwestern C and D dominated the home turf, facing some of the best teams at the tournament and coming out swinging. Da Eun Yoon won a 17-rank witness award, Josh Ezrol won a 19-rank attorney award and Abigail Sutter won an 18-rank attorney award!

St. Paul Regional: Northwestern A and B went in and did the damn thing another time, qualifying out with 2nd and 4th finishes with records of 8-0 and 6-2. Freshman attorney Tahj Burnett won a 19-rank award at his first Regionals appearance ever, Braden Pomerantz and Megan Munce both won 17-rank witness awards, and Liz Curtis won a 17-rank attorney award!

Cedar Rapid ORCS: After a very tough fight, NUMT qualified its B team to nationals for the third year in a row with a 6-2 record! Northwestern A faced off with its friend from the other end of Lakeshore Drive, UChicago A, and came out with a record of 4-3-1.

The 2020 National Championship tournament was canceled due to COVID-19.

2017-2018 Season

2017 Fall (Unstacked Teams)

NIU: Team Donatello tied for first place with a 7-1 record, ultimately taking second from a one point CS differential, and their very own jovial Jolie Boulos took home an 18 rank witness award! Team Michelangelo came out with a 4-4 record, with sophisticated Sarah Walther receiving a 17 rank attorney award!

AAMTI (Berkeley): Team Michelangelo tied for second place with a 7-1 record, ultimately taking home third due to point differentials, and brilliant Benjamin Markstone brought back an 18 rank attorney award!

Tufts University: Team Raphael had a 5-3 record with an eight place honorable mention, with outstanding Olivia O'Brien taking home a 20 rank witness award!!

Temple University: Team Donatello went undefeated with an 8-0 record, taking home first place, and keen Kate Hayner-Slattery brought back both a 20 rank attorney award and a 14 rank witness award!! Also, the jocund Joy Holden took home a 20 rank witness award!

Lewis University: Team Raphael took third place with a 6-2 record, with beaming Braden Pomerantz coming back with a 17 rank witness award!

2018 Winter (Stacked Teams)

St. Paul Regional: Northwestern A tied for 3rd place with a 6-2 record, qualifying for the Opening Round Championships in Geneva, and Katharine Cusick brought back 16 rank witness award!! Ceder Rapids Regional: Northwestern B came in 8th place with 5.5 wins, missing out on qualifying for the Opening Round Championships by one place on a tie which was broken by a CS of just .5Joliet Regional:Northwestern D tied for 2rd place with a 7-1 record, qualifying for the Opening Round Championships in Hamilton, while Northwestern C finished with a record of 3-5. Sean Van Dril recieived a 19 rank witness award while Liz Curtis earned a 19 rank attorney award and Michael Zhou brought home an 18 rank attorney award. 

Geneva ORCs: Northwestern A has qualified for Nationals with an 8-0 record, cementing their status as one of the best in the Midwest. They destroyed their competition with a +78 point differential over teams like UChicago A, Wheaton A, ISU A, and Arkansas A. Senior and captain Katharine Cusick took 18 and 17 rank witness awards, while her fellow senior and captain Joy Holden took an 18 rank attorney award.

Hamilton ORCs: Northwestern B has also qualified for Nationals with a 5-3 record! They had a quick start with wins over teams like Notre Dame A, Eastern Michigan A, and a split with Elmhurst A. An overall +35 point differential and a CS of 17.5 was enough to move on at one of the most difficult ORCs this year. Senior and captain Jack Stucky took a 19 rank witness award. 

Nationals:  Northwestern had a great run at the National Championship Tournament this year, Northwestern A, team 1592 placed 9th in their division with a 7-5 record. Northwestern B, team 1593 finished 2-10 but still took a ballot off National defending champions, UVA. Nick Anderson, Joy Holden, and Michael Zhou all took home All-American Attorney awards, a program record!
